COVID-19 IgG/IgM Antibody Test

A COVID-19 antibody test, also known as a serology test, is a blood test that can detect if a person has antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. COVID-19 antibody tests can help identify people who may have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus or have recovered from the COVID-19 infection.

At this time, researchers do not know whether the presence of antibodies means that you are immune to the coronavirus in the future; or if you are immune, how long it will last.

COVID-19 PCR Nasal Swab Test

The COVID-19 (PCR) test uses a nasopharyngeal swab to test your nasal secretions for traces of COVID-19.

If you have symptoms including fever, cough or shortness of breath, you can schedule a COVID-19 PCR test online. If you’d like to consult with a provider about your symptoms, getting approval to return to work/school, or about whether or not you require re-testing, book an appointment directly through our website for prompt assistance.

What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is a type of virus called a coronavirus. It is highly contagious, and causes a variety of symptoms including those listed above. As of August 2020, more than 18 million people worldwide have been infected with COVID-19, including over 4.6 million in the US.
How It Spreads
When a person infected with COVID-19 coughs or sneezes, small droplets that contain the virus may be released into the air. These droplets can enter the mouths or noses of people nearby and make them sick. This is more likely to happen when people are within 6 feet of one another. That's why social distancing guidelines include staying at least that far apart.

It's also possible to get COVID-19 by touching something that has the virus on it, and then touching your own mouth, nose, or eyes.

Frequently Asked Questions

We use a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test and a blood antibody test. These tests are provided by EZHealthCheck.

With the PCR test (also called a nasal swab test), a sterile swab is inserted into your nose to take a sample. This is usually not painful, but it can be uncomfortable.

Using a blood draw or a small prick of your finger, this test looks for markers in the blood (called antibodies) that show you are infected or have been infected in the past—even if you don’t have symptoms.

When your results are available, you will get an email letting you know that you can view them on a secure website. It is best to speak with your employer about your company’s guidelines for COVID-19 testing before you get tested. This will prepare you to take the right course of action once you get your results.

To change your appointment, call (281) 444-4444

If you are having symptoms that you think may be related to COVID-19, you may still get tested at EZHealthCheck. However, if you feel that you are seriously ill, please seek immediate medical care from a healthcare professional.

If you test positive for COVID-19, call your doctor as soon as possible. If you are an airport or airline employee, let your employer know you have tested positive, and ask about your company’s guidelines for workers infected with COVID-19. Everyone is encouraged to visit coronavirus.gov for more information.

If you test negative for COVID-19, you probably were not infected at the time the test was done. However, this does not mean you will not get sick. It is even possible that you were very early in your infection and that you could test positive later. Or you could be exposed to the virus later and then get sick.

Disclaimer (Antibody Test)

This test has not been reviewed by the FDA but is being offered under the FDA’s Policy for Diagnostic Tests for Coronavirus Disease 2019, Section IV.D

Negative results do not rule out SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly in those who have been in contact with the virus. Follow-up testing with a molecular diagnostic should be considered to rule out infection in these individuals.

Results from antibody testing should not be used as the sole basis to diagnose or exclude SARS-CoV-2 infection or to inform infection status.

Early infections may not have generated sufficient antibodies to be positive on the test.

Currently it is not known if having any IgG antibodies indicates immunity; however, having IgG antibodies does indicate having had the infection.

Positive results may be due to past or present infection with non-SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus strains, such as coronavirus HKU1, NL63, OC43, or 229E.

There is a 13% false negative rate (Out of 100 people with the disease up to 13 may falsely test negative).

Understanding The Test Results (Antibody Test)

IgM : Negative / IgG : Negative

  • Indicates no infection (Within parameters of the false negative rate)

IgM : Positive / IgG : Negative

  • Indicates an acute infection, it is not clear if patients are contagious.
  • CDC recommendation is that people with positive tests or negative tests with symptoms can end quarantine when they have had 72 hours fever free with no fever reducers, symptoms including cough are resolved and it has been at least 7 days since the symptoms started.

IgM : Positive / IgG : Positive

  • Indicates a convalescent (recovering) state
  • If people with these results are having any symptoms the quarantine recommendations apply.

IgM : Negative / IgG : Positive

  • Indicates a previous infection

Disclaimer (PCR Test)

This test has not been FDA cleared or approved.

This test has been authorized only for the detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2, not for any other viruses or pathogens.

This test has been authorized by FDA under an EUA for use by authorized laboratories.

This test is only authorized for the duration of the declaration that circumstances exist justifying the authorization of emergency use of in vitro diagnostics for detection and/or diagnosis of COVID-19 under Section 564(b)(1) of the Act, 21 U.S.C. § 360bbb-3(b)(1), unless the authorization is terminated or revoked sooner.

Understanding The Test Results (PCR Test)

COVID-19 Positive (SARS-CoV-2 RNA Detected) Test Result

  • If your COVID-19 test was positive, this means that the test did detect the presence of COVID-19 in your nasal secretions. This result would suggest that you are currently infected with COVID-19.

COVID-19 Negative (SARS-CoV-2 RNA Not Detected) Test Result

  • If your COVID-19 test was negative, this means that the test did not detect the presence of COVID-19 in your nasal secretions. This result would suggest that you are not currently infected with COVID-19.
  • If you have had a negative COVID-19 test, we still recommend that you wear a face mask in public, practice frequent hand hygiene and follow social distancing recommendations, just as you were doing before your COVID-19 test.
